| Topic: Woodpecker problems | | Question | | Woodpecker problems | | Answer | No, there is nothing in Sign•Foam that tastes good to them.
No, there is nothing about paint that attracts them.
No, there is nothing that your can coat the sign with to protect it.
What the bird experts told us was that woodpeckers peck for two reasons. The first is to find food. There is nothing in SignFoam for them to eat and there are no bugs living in it, so woodpeckers are many things but they are not dumb, and it doesn’t take long for them to realize there is nothing here to eat. The second reason they peck is to make noise. Apparently they are somewhat territorial in nature and banging on trees, houses, and in this case signs is a way of establishing boundaries.
This leaves you in a tight spot, the only remedy we know of may not always be practical. It involves keeping the birds out of the general area by scaring them away with a decoy. If you can possibly place a plastic owl or hawk in a nearby tree, your worries are over. (I know I said there weren’t dumb, but they are of course just birds) Otherwise I am afraid your have to go with some kind of metal sign, as the will continue to peck holes in your signs. | Tech Support |
