| Topic: How many coats of primer? | | Question | | How many coats of primer must you put on Sign Foam prior to painting? | | Answer | The correct answer to your question is zero! You really don’t have to prime it at all. What I mean by that is Sign•Foam is already 100% waterproof and you don’t need to seal it or protect it in anyway. Priming Sign•Foam is simply a matter of surface texture, so you only need to prime it until it is as smooth as you would like to see it. Sand the surface first and apply one coat. Let that first coat dry and lightly sand it with 320 wet/dry sandpaper. At this point you just evaluate the surface to see if it is as smooth as you would like to see it. If not, repeat the process until you are satisfied. Most of our customers will use 2-3 coats but you will be the final judge. Remember, that paint will only add color, so if it’s not smooth enough for you then use another coat of primer.
