| Topic: SignGold | | Question | | I am getting a sign routed with SIGN•FOAM for the first time. SIGN•FOAM is a new product for me. After the sign is routed I will have to complete the rest of sign (Prime, Paint, Install...). I am using SignGold for the border and text. can you explain the best steps necessary to Prime, Paint and then apply SignGold. Also, I would like your opinion(s) on what type of paint is best applied to SIGN•FOAM. I so could you inform me more on Smolt(the broken glass look). Thank you for all the advice. | | Answer | You have presented several good questions here, so let’s take them one at a time. As far as priming is concerned, any high-fill primer will work fine. Keep in mind the Sign•Foam3 is 100% waterproof, even before you prime it. Your primer’s only function is to smooth out the surface texture of the Sign•Foam. We recommend that you use Sign•Prime, the only primer made specifically for Sign•Foam3. Sign•Prime has remarkable filling and sanding characteristics, as well as excellent drying and adhesion. One coat of Sign•Prime and a light sand and your sign will be ready for your paint and SignGold.
Once your sign has been primed, and smoothed out, any lettering enamel will work well for you. In this case enamel will provide a smoother harder surface for the SignGold to adhere to.
As for Smolt, it’s an art unto itself. You may want to check the www.letterheads.com for more advice and instruction on this one.
