| Topic: Paint that I can spray | | Question | I cut 3D letters on a CNC machine using 1/2" and 1" signfoam. Most of the time one face is laminated with HPL or .018 brushed alum. After I cut them out, I need to paint the edges . When I use latex paint the edge finish is blotchy. I think this is because the paint fills some of the pores more than others.
I am looking for a paint that I can spray onto the edge that does not fill the pores but " impregnates" the sign foam edge with color. The desired look is seeing the pores in the edge but they remain colored. I try to thin the latex paint but I still end up filling some of the pores. What should I try? | | Answer | The solid material in your latex paint “floats” in the liquid vehicle, it can clump together and when it dries, you are left with the inconsistent finish your describing.
I believe you will get the look your after with a simple can of spray paint. It will not harm Sign•Foam chemically, and will cover very evenly. As long as you don’t apply too much, you will see the textured surface you are looking for.
